Self esteem is the way we feel about ourselves or the opinions we have about ourselves. Self esteem doesn’t always come easily, but Inner Light Counseling wants to share some practices to help improve your self esteem and achieve empowerment.
Identify Your Self Esteem
Most change doesn’t happen without challenge. One of the first parts in improving your self esteem is to pinpoint where you are currently at and work towards empowerment. Take some time to notice your thoughts. Identify and pinpoint areas where you find negative thoughts and opinions coming through and work to challenge those negative thoughts/emotions.
Find The Positive
While it is important to challenge and combat your negative thoughts, it is equally as important to identify your areas of strength and positivity. When you start to feel those negative thoughts or opinions creeping in, taking a few moments to recollect your thoughts and focus on the positive can help in changing your mindset and finding the good.
Stick Up For Yourself
You are your hardest critic at times, but you are also your biggest cheerleader. When you find yourself in a situation where you feel uncomfortable or even not engaged, the power of no can be empowering. Learning to respect your time and making sure others do the same will allow you to focus your energy and power on the things that are important to you thus promoting positive thoughts and growth.
Take On Challenges
Oftentimes people that are struggling with low self esteem avoid areas of conflict or challenging situations. However, one of the most effective ways to grow and conquer challenges is to accept change. This doesn’t mean throwing yourself into situations that make you uneasy or are undesirable, but taking small steps and taking on small challenges will allow you to show yourself just how much you are capable of!
Self esteem is no easy battle, in fact its a constant uphill climb. Counseling for self esteem can help.
In days and times where we are compared and do the comparisons ourselves its easy to overlook the positive things about ourselves. Inner Light and Counseling understands that, and we are here to help!
